We are happy to discuss this question with you in detail. That said, there is approximately 80% overlap between SAT and ACT, so skills and knowledge for one test are broadly applicable to the other. If we start working together early enough (always the best bet to start SAT and ACT preparation early so as to maximize your options and knowledge!), Spider Web often suggests that students sit for both exams to determine which test is a better fit. When this is not possible, we are happy to run a complimentary analysis to determine whether ACT or SAT is likely a better fit.
The answer to this question is different for every student. There are indeed some cases when applying to college without submitting an SAT or ACT is the preferred option. That said, very few colleges are “test blind” and generally strong standardized test scores significantly improve an applicant’s chances at admission to competitive universities.
